Deionized Water also known as demineralized water, DI water, DIW

Chemtools Deionised water is a chemically pure water for all chemical and pharmaceutical processing requiring the use of purified water.

Deionized water, also known as demineralized water ( DI water, DIW, de-ionized or deionised water ) is water that has had its mineral ions (which are the impurities) removed,  such as the cations sodium, calcium, iron and copper and anions such as chloride and sulphate.

Deionization is a chemical process which uses specially manufactured ion-exchange resins to exchange hydrogen ions and hydroxide ions for dissolved minerals, which then combine to form water. Because the majority of water impurities are dissolved salts, deionization produces a high purity water that is generally similar to distilled water* and this process is quick and without scale buildup.

*Distilled water is water that has been boiled then condensed to collect the pure water. When the water is boiled the ions and minerals are left behind while the pure water boils and is collected.
